Feeling a little culture shock? The Thailand Foundation is organizing the Eighth Expatriate Orientation Program (EOP8), a program that serves as a quick manual for foreign diplomats, expatriates, businesspersons, consultants, scholars, as well as their families for a deeper understanding of Thailand, Thai people, and essential characteristics of “Thainess.”

A crash course in Bangkok, Thai culture, Thai lifestyles
The one-and-a-half-day comprehensive learning experience will be conducted in English by prominent speakers who are experts in the selected fields. Day 1 will begin at 13:00 and run as a half-day program, while Day 2 will be conducted as a full-day program. The program’s topics include:
- Prism of Thainess: Approaching Thai Society from the Perspective of Thai Values
Our values shape how we perceive and respond to the world around us. This session will take a look at Thai social frameworks through the lens of “Prism of Thainess,” by diving into the core values that underline various aspects of Thai culture. With practical insights, attendees will get to enrich their experiences in work, leisure, and social interactions in Thailand.
- Buddhism in the Mindset and the Ways of Life of the Thai People
For most Thais, Buddhism is more than a religion — it is a way of life. This session explores how Buddhist doctrines shape the Thai mindset, daily practices, and social relations. It also examines how these beliefs influence key life events and cultural traditions.
- Discovering the Four Regions of Thailand by Rails
Thailand stands as one of the world’s top tourist destinations and it still holds many hidden treasures waiting to be discovered by foreigners. This session will take the audience on a journey through Thailand’s vibrant regions to discover its diverse landscapes and uncover hidden gems.
- Appreciating Arts Around You in Thailand
When travelling through Thailand, there will be countless exquisite artistic expressions, ranging from architecture to fine arts. These creations are more than “aesthetic” and serve as a testament to the remarkable skills of Thai artists and the rich tapestry of Thai history. This session will guide attendees through the story of Thai arts, exploring its origins and insightful qualities that reflect the values of Thailand and its people.
- Decoding Bangkok
Bangkok is a fascinating blend of old and new, constantly evolving yet deeply rooted in tradition. This session reveals how to “read” the city — from its cultural foundations to its modern urban landscape — uncovering the hidden structures and stories behind one of the world’s most dynamic capitals.
- Finding Your Lifestyles in Thailand
Thailand has more to offer than what you may expect in terms of lifestyles and activities. This session will demonstrate diverse ways to enjoy Thailand in aspects beyond work life.
