Description Southern Thailand is bounded by the Andaman Sea and part of the national border with Myanmar to the west, the Gulf of Thailand to the east, and the national border with Malaysia to the south. As the closest region to the Equator, the South has a tropical climate with high humidity and abundant rainfall. The region is considered a multicultural melting pot, home to both Buddhist and Muslim-majority communities. Its agriculture is dominated by natural rubber and palm oil production as well as fisheries. Tourism is also a major economic driver, with visitors drawn to the Pearl of the Andaman, Phuket, along with many other islands including Koh Phi Phi, Koh Samui, and Koh Phangan.
