Building on years of momentum, Bangkok has achieved its newest high as a leading MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) destination, climbing to seventh place from 15th previously in the latest International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) city rankings for 2024. The leap marks the Thai capital’s highest-ever global position and reflects an exceptional year for Thailand’s business events sector overall.
Fueled in part by a wave of high-profile international events, Bangkok hosted 115 international conventions in 2024, securing its spot as the third most popular city in the Asia-Pacific — behind Singapore and Seoul — and second in ASEAN, just behind Singapore. Cvent, a global meetings technology platform, further reaffirmed this rise by ranking Bangkok second in the Asia-Pacific for sourcing activity, based on over US$18 billion in event proposals.
Topping ASEAN, showcasing regional strength
It wasn’t just Bangkok making waves. According to the ICCA’s 2024 Country & City Rankings, Thailand hosted 158 international conventions — up from 143 the previous year — climbing to 25th globally and clinching the number one spot in Southeast Asia. Additionally, for the first time ever, 13 Thai cities appeared in the rankings, the strongest national showing to date. From regional urban centers like Chiang Mai and Pattaya to cities like Khon Kaen and Pathum Thani, this surge underscores Thailand’s deepening capacity across multiple regions.
The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) credits this success to proactive policies like “One Ministry, One Convention,” regional office expansions, and event strategies aligned with national strengths in health, sustainability, and technology. TCEB Acting President Puripan Bunnag called the results “a strong sign of Thailand’s enhanced capacities for conferences,” and expressed optimism for continued growth and diversification.

With incentives like riverside wellness sessions, Michelin-starred dining, and immersive cultural tours, Thailand isn’t just inviting the world to meet up — it’s ensuring they never forget the experience.
