Bangkok reigns as Asia’s most revisited city, again

Bangkok has once again secured the crown as Asia’s most revisited city, topping Agoda’s 2025 Repeat Visitor Ranking for the second consecutive year. Based on booking data from the first half of the year, the Thai capital outranked Tokyo, Seoul, Bali, and Osaka, reaffirming its magnetic pull for travelers from around the globe.

According to Agoda, repeat visits serve as a strong indicator of a destination’s lasting appeal. Many visitors return to Bangkok to relive their favorite experiences and uncover hidden corners, sample new dishes, or just enjoy the comfort of its familiar streets and markets. Some even make multiple trips within a six-month timeframe.

Akaporn Rodkong, Agoda’s Country Director for Thailand, attributes the city’s appeal to its “vibrant culture, exceptional cuisine, and the collaborative efforts of Thailand’s tourism sector and government to deliver experiences that leave a lasting impression.”

Fresh discoveries for returning visitors

Bangkok’s enduring charm lies in its unique blend of the traditional and modern. While first-time visitors may explore renowned cultural treasures such as the Grand Palace or Wat Arun, returning travelers are peeling back the layers to discover adjacent enclaves.

While Yaowarat has long enjoyed landmark status as Bangkok’s Chinatown, savvy travelers have begun branching off into the nearby historical neighborhoods of Talat Noi and Song Wat Road, which have undergone something of a cultural revival. Similarly, ICONSIAM or centralwOrld are usually part of any shopaholic’s Bangkok itinerary, but a repeat visit might take them to the interconnected malls of the EM District.

Further adding to the city’s charm is its world-class accessibility. With the BTS Skytrain, MRT subway, taxis, and upgraded domestic airports, getting around is straightforward and efficient, making it easy for returning visitors to branch out into new districts or neighboring provinces.

Beyond Bangkok, Thailand’s tourism appeal is impressively diverse. Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, and Hat Yai also saw significant numbers of returning visitors, showing that travelers are keen to explore the Kingdom’s varied landscapes and cultures.

Tourism in 2025 and beyond

To maintain momentum, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is working with industry partners on targeted campaigns in key markets such as India, China, Malaysia, Laos, and Vietnam. Central to this is the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2025, running from July 1st to August 15th, which offers discounts and privileges across hotels, shopping, and experiences nationwide.

With its rich culture, world-class food, and ongoing infrastructure and tourism investments, Bangkok’s top spot on the Repeat Visitor Ranking stands as a region-wide testament to a city that knows how to welcome travelers back, time and again.
