Feeling enchanted by Thailand’s royal court attire? Interested in learning more about its evolution and representation on the global stage? Look no further than La Mode en Majesté – Royal Thai Dress: From Tradition to Modernity .Hosted at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, France, the exhibition will run from May 13th to November 1st, 2026.
With Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya graciously serving as patron, the exhibition is being held to celebrate the two key milestones: the 340th anniversary of relations and the 170th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the French Republic (1856–2026).
A collaboration between the Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand (SACIT), The Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles, the Royal Thai Embassy in Paris, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the exhibit will display over 200 pieces. Said works will include royal gowns, garments, and accessories co-designed by French couturier Pierre Balmain and renowned embroidery house Lesage. Pieces by Thai designers will also be showcased.
Exhibition highlights of La Mode en Majesté
The exhibition traces the evolution of royal court attire and its presence on the global stage, showcasing garments worn by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana, and Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya.
Visitors can also explore all eight styles of Chud Thai Phra Ratcha Niyom (“royally endorsed Thai national costumes”), presented alongside exceptional examples of Thai craftsmanship. Together, these pieces highlight the elegance, wisdom, and cultural heritage that have been preserved and passed down through generations.
The exhibition also supports the nomination of “Chud Thai Phra Ratcha Niyom” for inclusion on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2026.
