SIRIVANNAVARI’s weave Thai and Japanese culture into Asian Games uniforms

Thailand’s athletes have their formal look for the 2026 Asian Games, with handwoven Thai textiles at the center of the design.

More than 900 Thai athletes and team officials will wear the uniforms at the opening ceremony of the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026. They were designed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, Founder and Creative Director of SIRIVANNAVARI, under the concept “The Art of Unity.”

The Princess designed the uniforms at the invitation of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Each set consists of a three-pocket jacket in handwoven cotton, matching trousers, a white shirt embroidered with references to Thai and Japanese culture, and a necktie finished with SIRIVANNAVARI’s signature Diamond Knot.

One of the main textiles comes from Sakon Nakhon. The design uses naturally indigo-dyed, handwoven cotton from the Donkoi Model, part of the Sustainable Village project under Princess Sirivannavari’s royal initiative. Handwoven cotton from the SUPPORT Foundation, under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, is also incorporated into the uniforms.

The initiative works with weaving communities in Sakon Nakhon on natural indigo dyeing and improving the design and quality of their textiles, with the aim of bringing local craftsmanship into contemporary products and wider markets. SIRIVANNAVARI has also used Donkoi Model indigo cotton in its own fashion collections, including its spring-summer 2026 collection.

The uniforms are designed for both men and women in Thailand’s delegation, with the tailoring allowing for greater mobility while keeping the formal look required for the opening ceremony.

Several Thai athletes model the uniforms in the launch campaign: badminton player Kunlavut Vitidsarn, taekwondo athlete Banlung Tubtimdang, volleyball player Pimpichaya Kokram, and table tennis player Suthasini Sawettabut appear alongside retired two-time Olympic taekwondo champion Panipak Wongpattanakit.

The 20th Asian Games will take place in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, with additional competition venues elsewhere in Japan, from September 19th to October 4th, 2026. This will be Japan’s third time hosting the Asian Games, following Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994.
