Thailand’s Queer-Friendly Culture

Thailand is known as a queer-friendly destination, due to a lot of cultural touchstones like our trans beauty pageants as well as popular movies & TV series in the BL/GL genre. The passing of the Marriage Equality Act has also helped to legitimize this perception of Thailand as an inclusive destination.

In 2024, the BBC named Bangkok one of the top six LGBTQ destinations around the world, and just last year Thailand was crowned the Best LGBTQ+ Destination at the Spartacus Travel Awards 2025
