The Peranakan people are descendants of Chinese immigrants who settled across parts of Southeast Asia. In Phuket, the community developed through migration during the 18th and 19th centuries, when Chinese migrants arrived on the island amid the growth of its tin-mining industry.

Today, Peranakan heritage remains an important part of Phuket’s cultural identity, reflected in local traditions and cuisine.
